Kuwait’s National Library celebrates British Council’s platinum jubilee

KUWAIT, July 8 (KUNA) — The Kuwait National Library (NLK) hosted the British Council’s Platinum Jubilee Exhibition on Tuesday, showcasing rare photographs and publications that highlight the Council’s contributions to education in Kuwait.
Researcher and organizer of the event, Essa Dashti, informed KUNA that the exhibition was officially opened by the British Ambassador to Kuwait, Belinda Lewis.
Dashti noted that the display featured a unique collection of images capturing the British Council’s establishment in Kuwait in 1955, along with significant publications used in Kuwaiti schools for teaching English.
The week-long exhibition aligns with the 250th anniversary of historical ties between Kuwait and the United Kingdom.
Several high-profile visits were documented for the first time, including the visit of King Charles III, then Prince of Wales, in 1993, when he reopened the British Council following Kuwait’s liberation from the Iraqi invasion, as well as his historic second visit to Kuwait in 1997. (end) r nyt.ao
