KUWAIT, Aug 18 (KUNA) — As part of the Cultural Summer 17 festival, the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL) launched a four-day artistic event called “Houses of Clay” on Monday. The workshop, hosted at the Museum of Modern Art, brings together 16 Kuwaiti artists to recreate traditional Kuwaiti dwellings using clay, inspired by historical photographs of structures on Failaka Island taken five years prior. nOrganizer Nasser Al-Quraini explained that the initiative aims to preserve memories of pre-war Kuwaiti architecture, particularly buildings lost during the Iraqi invasion. The artistic process involves modeling and sculpting with natural materials to reflect the design and texture of old homes. nAl-Quraini highlighted the significance of recognizing artisans who dedicate time and skill to such crafts, noting that events like this encourage both cultural continuity and creative innovation.
