KUWAIT, June 18 (KUNA) — The Minister of Social Affairs and Minister of State for Family and Childhood Affairs, Dr. Amthal Al-Huwaila, confirmed on Wednesday that the new Kuwait International Airport has been designed in compliance with the “Kuwait Accessibility Code under Universal Design.” Speaking to KUNA, Dr. Al-Huwaila emphasized that this code seeks to create a fully inclusive and secure environment catering to all societal groups, especially persons with disabilities, senior citizens, and those with special needs.
Dr. Al-Huwaila highlighted that the airport project incorporates specialized facilities, such as sensory rooms tailored to support individuals sensitive to external stimuli, including children with autism, people with intellectual disabilities, and elderly individuals suffering from conditions like Alzheimer’s disease. She also mentioned that the Public Authority for Persons with Disabilities collaborated closely with the Ministry of Public Works, Kuwait Municipality, and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. This collaboration, aligned with directives from Kuwait’s leadership, ensures streamlined accessibility and underscores the nation’s dedication to social justice and universal design principles in its development initiatives.
Dr. Al-Huwaila further stated that the integration of the national accessibility code into the new airport serves as a benchmark for institutional cooperation and reflects Kuwait’s vision of an inclusive infrastructure that benefits all members of society without exception.
