KUWAIT, June 27 (KUNA) — In 1961, Kuwaiti women held their first-ever demonstration, protesting Iraqi Prime Minister Abdulkareem Qassem’s provocative remarks that Iraq would annex Kuwait. In 1984, a non-governmental center dedicated to the rehabilitation and education of children was founded. Its purpose was to conduct psychological and educational assessments for children and train personnel to carry out these evaluations. In 1995, Kuwait’s Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah issued a decree establishing the Environment Public Authority. In 2003, renowned artist Khalifa Al-Qattan passed away at the age of 69. He was the first to hold an exhibition in 1953 and another in Italy in 1962. He was also one of the founders of the Kuwait Arts Association in 1967 and served as its first chairman. In 2005, Kuwait’s National Assembly, or parliament, approved a bill to waive 2,000 Kuwaiti Dinars (KD) of electricity and water bills for every house owned by Kuwaiti citizens. If the bill exceeded this amount, the homeowner was required to pay the excess in monthly installments. In 2012, Kuwait Radio received the second batch of its radio archive that had been stolen by Iraqi forces during the 1990-91 invasion and occupation. This batch included 17 boxes of tapes. In 2013, the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) signed seven agreements with Morocco to fund development projects in the North African country. These agreements were part of a USD 1.250 billion grant under a GCC development assistance program for Morocco.
