Elizabeth Holmes fails to overturn her Theranos fraud conviction

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of Theranos, has failed in her attempt to overturn her fraud conviction. A federal appeals court in San Francisco upheld the conviction, stating no legal missteps occurred during her trial. The court also upheld the conviction of her former partner, Ramesh “Sunny” Balwani, and a $452 million restitution order. Holmes is currently serving an 11-year sentence for deceiving investors about Theranos’ blood-testing technology, which never functioned as claimed. Balwani is serving nearly 13 years. Both will remain incarcerated until the 2030s. The case has been examined in various media, including books and documentaries. — news from The Associated Press
