India Delays Decision on Analysis Location for Crashed Plane’s Black Box Recorders

India has not yet determined where the black box recorders from the recent Air India plane crash will be analyzed, according to a government statement released on Thursday. Contrary to earlier reports by The Economic Times, which claimed the recorders would be sent to the U.S. due to damage from the post-crash fire, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) emphasized that no final decision has been made. AAIB Director General GVG Yugandhar described the newspaper’s report as “factually incorrect.” The government urged against speculation, noting that the crash investigation is ongoing with full local support. Black boxes, comprising the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder, are critical for understanding crash causes. Both the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board and the UK’s Air Accidents Investigation Branch have stated that further details will come from India’s investigative body.
