WAFCON Final Set: Nigeria Faces Morocco for Continental Glory

Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses will face Nigeria’s Super Falcons in the final of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Ghana at Rabat’s Olympic Stadium. The semi-final ended 1-1 after extra time, with Morocco prevailing 4-2 on penalties. Ghana had taken an early lead through Stella Nyamekye, but Morocco equalized in the second half via Sakina Ouzraoui. Key misses from Ghana’s Evelyn Badu and a saved attempt by Comfort Yeboah gave Morocco the edge. This marks Morocco’s second consecutive WAFCON final, having reached the 2022 edition where they fell to South Africa. Nigeria advanced after a thrilling 2-1 win over defending champions South Africa in Casablanca. Rasheedat Ajibade converted a first-half penalty, but Linda Motlhalo leveled from the spot in the 60th minute. Michelle Alozie secured Nigeria’s win with a stoppage-time strike. Nigeria, seeking a record 10th continental title, remains undefeated in all previous WAFCON finals.
