Bay Area Firm Alef Aeronautics Successfully Tests Flying Car in Urban Environment

Alef Aeronautics Inc., a sustainable electric transportation company based in San Mateo, California, has successfully conducted a flight test of its flying car in an urban setting. The company released video footage showing the vehicle driving on a road and taking off vertically, marking a significant milestone as the first-ever demonstration of its kind. “This drive and flight test represents an important proof of technology in a real-world city environment,” said Jim Dukhovny, CEO of Alef, in a news release. The test was performed with strict safety protocols, ensuring the area was secure and unpopulated, with emergency crews on standby. No safety issues were reported. The flying car, named Model A, is fully electric, capable of driving up to 200 miles and flying up to 110 miles. It accommodates one passenger and one pilot and is available for pre-order at $300,000. Alef has received 3,330 pre-orders through its website. The company also plans to introduce a four-person sedan, the Alef Model Z, by 2035, priced at $35,000. The Model Z will feature autonomous flight capabilities and have a driving range of 400 miles and a flight range of 200 miles.
