CATL Unveils Rapid-Charging EV Battery Technology

China’s Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) has unveiled its latest battery technology, which charges as quickly as refueling a gas vehicle. Known for being the world’s largest battery manufacturer, CATL is advancing electric transportation through innovations in lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) and sodium-ion batteries. The new Naxtra sodium-ion battery achieves an energy density of 175 Wh per kg, comparable to high-end LFP cells, with enhanced safety features demonstrated through rigorous stress tests. Additionally, CATL introduced the Shenxing LFP battery, capable of adding 300 miles of range in about 5 minutes, charging at rates around 1,000 kW. This technology could significantly lower EV costs without sacrificing performance or safety. CATL plans to integrate the Shenxing battery into 67 electric vehicle models by year’s end. — new from Electrek
