Celebrating Pi Day: The Mathematical Marvel

Every year on March 14, enthusiasts celebrate Pi Day in honor of the irrational number pi (π). Represented by the numbers 3.14, pi is the constant ratio between a circle’s circumference and its diameter. Pi has fascinated mathematicians for centuries due to its infinite, non-repeating decimal sequence. The Greek letter π was chosen by Welsh mathematician William Jones in the 18th century, symbolizing the ‘periphery.’ Pi’s irrationality was proven by Johann Lambert in the 1760s. Pi Day, initiated in 1988 by physicist Larry Shaw, has become a global celebration of mathematics and science.
