After over two years of negotiations, Disney has finalized its deal with Comcast to acquire NBCUniversal’s one-third stake in Hulu at a significantly lower price than initially anticipated. In December 2023, Disney agreed to pay $8.61 billion as an initial payment toward the Hulu buyout, representing one-third of the $27.5 billion guaranteed floor value set in 2019. Following arbitration to determine the final price, an additional $438.7 million is payable by Disney to NBCU for the acquisition of its interest in Hulu, according to a Disney SEC filing on June 9, 2025. The total price Disney will pay for Hulu is approximately $9 billion, implying a valuation of $27 billion overall for the streaming company. Disney CEO Bob Iger expressed satisfaction with the resolution, noting that completing the Hulu acquisition paves the way for deeper integration with Disney+ and ESPN’s direct-to-consumer product. Comcast spokesperson acknowledged Hulu’s success and expressed appreciation for the cooperative partnership with Disney. The deal marks a significant step in Disney’s strategy to consolidate its streaming services.
