During the Q4 2024 earnings call, Tesla CEO Elon Musk highlighted the challenges of rolling out Full Self-Driving (FSD) in China due to restrictions on transferring training data outside the country. Tesla reportedly addressed this issue through collaboration between its engineering teams in China and the United States. According to LatePost, a team from Tesla’s U.S. headquarters visited China in early February to assist with the local deployment of FSD features. This collaboration aimed to optimize FSD performance within China without exporting training data. Tesla’s China team will eventually handle algorithmic optimization for local road scenarios after the U.S. team completes its work. The training data used in China reportedly came from Tesla’s engineering vehicles driven on specific roads since last year. Tesla China recently began rolling out update 2024.45.32.12, introducing a feature called “Autopilot automatic assisted driving on urban roads,” resembling FSD’s city street driving. Tesla described this feature as guiding vehicles according to navigation routes, identifying traffic lights, and automatically changing lanes. This feature is currently available only for AI4 vehicles. — news from TESLARATI
