Intel CEO Announces Job Cuts and Reduced Hybrid Work Policy

Intel’s new CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, announced changes to the company’s work policies and workforce size in a letter to employees. Starting September 1, hybrid employees will be required to be on-site at least four days a week, an increase from the previous policy of approximately three days. Tan emphasized the importance of vibrant collaboration hubs that reflect Intel’s culture.

This announcement aligns with trends seen across major American companies rolling back hybrid and remote-work programs established during the pandemic, such as Amazon. The letter also discussed restructuring efforts, including a flatter management structure, fewer meetings, and reducing bureaucracy. Although specific layoffs were not announced, Tan acknowledged that the workforce would be reduced to solidify the company’s future. These changes will begin in the second quarter and progress over the next several months. Intel had over 100,000 employees globally as of last year.
