Rivian EVs May Still Qualify for Tax Credits Post-2025

Despite the potential elimination of the $7,500 federal EV tax credit, Rivian’s EVs might still qualify for the incentive until at least 2026. A current proposal suggests that automakers who have not sold 200,000 vehicles by December 31, 2025, could remain eligible. Rivian, with approximately 168,033 deliveries as of the end of 2024, is likely to fall under this exception. This could extend the tax credit to Rivian’s R1S, R1T, and the upcoming R2 model. However, the final decision depends on legislative approval. If passed, this exception could provide a significant advantage for Rivian and other similar companies in the competitive EV market.
