Singapore Arrests Alleged Nvidia Chip Smugglers Amid Export Control Scrutiny

Singaporean authorities have arrested three individuals, including two Singaporeans and one Chinese citizen, over allegations of smuggling advanced Nvidia chips. The suspects were charged with fraud related to a shipment of servers destined for Malaysia, according to Channel News Asia. Investigations are underway to determine whether the servers, manufactured by Dell and Supermicro, contained restricted Nvidia chips and were diverted from their official destination. Bloomberg reported that Singapore accounted for 18% of Nvidia’s fiscal year 2025 revenue, though actual shipments to the country made up less than 2% of sales. Dell stated it enforces a strict trade compliance program, while Nvidia declined to comment, and Supermicro has yet to respond to requests for comment. The case highlights growing concerns over China’s efforts to acquire advanced semiconductor technology despite stringent U.S. export controls. — news from TechCrunch
