Slate Auto Unveils Affordable Electric Vehicle Startup

Slate Auto, an electric vehicle startup backed by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, is making strides in suburban Detroit. At a facility near a major General Motors plant, Slate Auto is constructing prototypes and preparing for mass production. The company aims to produce a stripped-down, modular electric vehicle with a starting price under $20,000, eligible for up to $7,500 in EV tax credits. The vehicle features composite exteriors, basic components, and optional add-ons for personalization. Slate Auto plans to begin deliveries by the end of next year and is building a full-scale production facility in Indiana with an annual capacity of up to 150,000 vehicles. Despite challenges such as market demand for two-door vehicles and regulatory uncertainties, Slate Auto remains optimistic about its unique approach to affordability and customization.
