Tesla Experiences Significant Sales Drop in Sweden

Tesla’s sales in Sweden have plummeted significantly, with only 203 cars delivered last month, marking an 80% drop compared to the same period last year. In 2024, Tesla achieved its best year in Sweden, averaging 1,825 vehicles delivered per month. However, in 2025, the automaker faces a substantial boycott partly due to its CEO’s involvement in political matters. Despite having a stock of older Model Ys and the new Model Y AWD available, Tesla’s deliveries have averaged just 533 vehicles per month so far this year, a 71% decrease from 2024. The company still holds a significant inventory of the old Model Y models even though production ceased over two months ago. The upcoming introduction of the new Model Y RWD next month might offer some relief, though rear-wheel-drive vehicles are less popular in Sweden compared to all-wheel-drive options. This decline in demand is unsustainable, and Tesla may need to reduce its sales and delivery staff in the region. The situation highlights Tesla’s challenges in Europe, where lower interest rates have not sufficiently boosted demand. If sales remain poor through Q3, Tesla risks becoming a niche automaker in Europe rather than the market leader it was two years ago.
