2026 Subaru Outback: 7th-Generation Adventure Wagon Debut, Including Wilderness Model

Subaru is unveiling the seventh-generation Outback at the New York International Auto Show. The new model features a bolder design with an upright grille and textured front fascia, enhancing scratch resistance. The horizontal roofline can support a 220-pound dynamic load and an 800-pound static load, suitable for rooftop tents. Inside, the cabin uses recycled materials, including headliner inserts made from 12 recycled soft drink bottles. The Outback offers traditional buttons, knobs, and switches, along with ample cupholders and increased cargo space. The Wilderness model boasts 9.5 inches of ground clearance and improved angles for off-road performance. It includes a ruggedized suspension, X-Mode for various terrains, and 17-inch all-terrain tires. Powertrain options consist of a 2.5L flat-four Boxer engine and a 2.4L turbocharged Boxer engine, both paired with a Lineartronic CVT gearbox. Technology highlights include a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a 12.1-inch touchscreen, and advanced driver assistance systems. Pricing details will be announced closer to the on-sale date, with most versions reaching showrooms by late 2026.
