Professor Benedict Oramah, President of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), emphasized that the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF) has evolved into a major platform for the continent’s economic emancipation. He highlighted that since its inception in 2018, the event has symbolized Africa’s shift from economic dependency toward partnerships grounded in mutual trust and respect.\n\nThe fourth edition of the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF2025) opened in Algeria, drawing over 30,000 visitors and buyers, along with more than 2,000 exhibitors from around the world, according to Oramah.\n\nSpeaking at the opening session under the theme “From Trade Fairs to Economic Empowerment: An Evolutionary Journey,” Oramah noted that the fair now serves as a pivotal hub for Africa’s economic transformation. He praised Algeria’s successful hosting as reflective of the nation’s ongoing economic transformation under President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, adding that the event has become a meeting point for innovative African youth to showcase their ideas and ventures with backing from financial institutions and economic partners across the continent. It also functions as a launchpad for intra-African investment projects and collaborations.\n\nOramah cited several success stories originating from the fair since 2018. Among them was the $2.9 billion Rufiji Dam project in Tanzania, awarded to Egyptian contractors with financing and guarantees from African institutions—marking the largest intra-African construction deal to date. Another example involved investors discovering a Nigerian youth’s drone technology innovation, which subsequently opened global market opportunities.\n\nAdditional milestones included Afreximbank’s funding for the development of the Galawa tourism hotel in the Comoros, a $450 million agreement with ARISE Group to establish industrial zones across six African nations, and a €12 million deal enabling a Mauritanian firm (SAMAPECHE) to build a fish processing plant and expand its fleet.\n\nThese achievements, Oramah stressed, were not accidental but stemmed from a strategic vision launched by the bank in 2016 through its Intra-African Trade Strategy. He expressed appreciation for the support of African governments, strategic partners, and sponsors such as Dangote, Swedfund, Arise IIP, Sonangol, and others who have contributed to the fair’s continuity and growth.\n\nOramah revealed that this would be his final address to the forum as Afreximbank President. He announced that the advisory council has approved the creation of an independent entity headquartered in Harare, Zimbabwe, with an initial capital of $28 million. This new institution will operate permanently to advance African economic integration.\n\nHe extended gratitude to African and Caribbean heads of state and government attending the opening, as well as strategic partners including the African Union and the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area, alongside all stakeholders who contributed to the fair’s journey since 2018.\n\nIn his closing remarks, Oramah stated that Africa is currently engaged in an economic liberation struggle akin to its political independence movement of the 1960s. He called on governments, businesses, and financial institutions to support the new entity during its formative phase, adding: “We have built a platform resilient enough to last for decades. Now, we move from the era of founders to one of institutionalizing this mechanism as a true instrument of Africa’s economic freedom.”\n\n— News Original —\nرئيس أفريكسيم بنك: تأسيس كيان مستقل للمعرض الأفريقي للتجارة البينية برأسمال 28 مليون دولار\n\nأكد البروفيسور بنديكت أوراما، رئيس مجلس إدارة البنك الإفريقي للاستيراد والتصدير (أفريكسيم بنك)، أن المعرض الأفريقي للتجارة البينية (IATF) يمثل اليوم منصة كبرى للتحرر الاقتصادي للقارة، مشيراً إلى أن مسيرة المعرض منذ انطلاقه في 2018 جسّدت انتقال القارة من مرحلة التبعية الاقتصادية إلى بناء شراكات قائمة على الثقة والاحترام المتبادل. \n\nوافتُتحت الدورة الرابعة لمعرض التجارة البينية الإفريقية (IATF2025) في الجزائر بمشاركة أكثر من 30 ألف زائر ومشترٍ وما يزيد على 2000 عارض من مختلف أنحاء العالم، بحسب ما أعلنه أوراما. \n\nوأكد رئيس أفريكسيم بنك، في كلمته الافتتاحية بعنوان “من المعارض التجارية إلى التمكين الاقتصادي: قصة تطور”، أن المعرض يمثل اليوم منصة كبرى للتحرر الاقتصادي للقارة، مشيراً إلى أن مسيرته منذ انطلاقه في 2018 جسّدت انتقال إفريقيا من مرحلة التبعية الاقتصادية إلى بناء شراكات قائمة على الثقة والاحترام المتبادل. \n\nوأضاف أن الاستضافة الناجحة في الجزائر تعكس التحول الاقتصادي الذي تشهده البلاد بقيادة الرئيس عبد المجيد تبون، لافتاً إلى أن المعرض أصبح نقطة التقاء للشباب الإفريقي المبدع لتقديم أفكارهم ومشروعاتهم بدعم من شركاء اقتصاديين ومؤسسات مالية إفريقية، كما أصبح منصة رئيسية لإطلاق الشراكات والمشروعات الاستثمارية داخل القارة. \n\nواستعرض أوراما مجموعة من قصص النجاح التي انطلقت من المعرض منذ 2018، منها توقيع عقد مشروع سد “روفيجي” في تنزانيا بقيمة 2.9 مليار دولار مع مقاولين مصريين بتمويل وضمانات من مؤسسات إفريقية، ما جعله المشروع الأكبر في تاريخ المقاولات البينية الإفريقية، واكتشاف المستثمرين لابتكار شاب نيجيري في مجال الطائرات المسيّرة، ما فتح أمامه سوقاً عالمياً. \n\nإضافة إلى مشروع تطوير فندق “جالوا” السياحي في جزر القمر بتمويل من أفريكسيم بنك، واتفاق بقيمة 450 مليون دولار مع مجموعة ARISE لتطوير مناطق صناعية في ست دول إفريقية، إلى جانب صفقة بقيمة 12 مليون يورو لمؤسسة موريتانية (SAMAPECHE) لبناء مصنع لمعالجة الأسماك وتوسيع أسطولها. \n\nوأوضح أن ما تحقق لم يكن محض صدفة بل ثمرة رؤية استراتيجية بدأها البنك في 2016 عبر استراتيجية التجارة البينية الإفريقية، مثمناً دعم الحكومات الإفريقية، الشركاء، والرعاة مثل “دانغوتي”، “السويدي”، “أروايز IIP”، “سونانغول”، وغيرهم، الذين أسهموا في استمرار المعرض وتطويره. \n\nوأشار أوراما إلى أن هذه الكلمة هي الأخيرة له بصفته رئيساً لأفريكسيم بنك أمام المنتدى، معلناً أن المجلس الاستشاري للمعرض اعتمد إنشاء كيان مستقل له مقره في هراري – زيمبابوي، برأسمال أولي قدره 28 مليون دولار، ليصبح مؤسسة دائمة ومستقلة تدعم التكامل الاقتصادي الإفريقي. \n\nووجه الشكر لرؤساء الدول والحكومات من إفريقيا والكاريبي المشاركين في الافتتاح، وللشركاء الاستراتيجيين وعلى رأسهم الاتحاد الإفريقي وأمانة منطقة التجارة الحرة القارية الإفريقية، ولجميع المعنيين الذين ساهموا في نجاح المسيرة منذ 2018 وحتى الآن. \n\nوختم أوراما كلمته قائلاً إن إفريقيا “تخوض اليوم معركة تحرر اقتصادي شبيهة بمعركة التحرر السياسي في ستينيات القرن الماضي”، داعياً الحكومات والشركات والمؤسسات المالية إلى دعم الكيان الجديد خلال مرحلته التأسيسية، مضيفاً: “لقد بنينا منصة قادرة على الصمود لعقود، ومن هنا ننتقل من مرحلة المؤسسين إلى مرحلة ترسيخ الكيان كأداة حقيقية للتحرر الاقتصادي الإفريقي.”
