An Economic Agenda for the Class of 2028

Although holding contrasting political views, Donald Trump and Joe Biden appear to share a similar economic approach. Both leaders advocate for a strong White House role in shaping the American economy by supporting specific businesses and allies. Ambitious young leaders from both parties aiming for 2028 should present themselves as alternatives to this economic model.

Presidents Trump and Biden have both pursued expansive fiscal policies, significantly increasing the national debt. Each has implemented trade restrictions to protect favored industries, expecting those sectors to align closely with presidential goals. Both have taken a nostalgic view of the U.S. economy, favoring traditional industries. Mr. Trump has overlooked America’s strength in service exports, while Mr. Biden has aligned with progressive skepticism toward the technology sector.
