Ultra-low-cost carrier Avelo Airlines has entered into an agreement with the Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to operate deportation flights. According to Avelo’s founder and CEO, Andrew Levy, the decision was made after careful consideration, emphasizing that the charter flights will provide stability for the airline’s growth and ensure employment for over 1,100 crew members. The deportation flights will be conducted using three Boeing 737-800 aircraft stationed at Mesa Gateway Airport in Arizona, commencing on May 12. A crew base will also be established at the airport to support these operations, with new hires for flight attendant and aircraft technician roles. This development comes amid increased deportation efforts by the Trump administration, though judicial challenges have sought to limit such actions.
