Boise State Athletics Generates $350 Million in Annual Economic Impact Across Idaho

BOISE, Idaho – A new economic impact report released Tuesday reveals that Boise State Athletics contributes $350 million annually to Idaho’s economy across three geographic levels: the Boise Auditorium District, Treasure Valley, and the state as a whole. The analysis, conducted by Lightcast with funding from the university’s athletic department, covers fiscal year 2023-24 and highlights the program’s broad influence on regional economic activity and student-athlete development. n nThe study found that $135.7 million of the total impact is concentrated in the Boise Auditorium District, with $127.3 million affecting Treasure Valley and $87 million benefiting the rest of Idaho. The report also indicates that every dollar invested in the athletics program yields a $2 return for Idaho residents. n nJeramiah Dickey, Director of Athletics at Boise State, emphasized the institution’s role as a unifying symbol for the state. “Boise State is the Front Porch of Idaho, and our collective TEAM plays such an important role to the auditorium district, Treasure Valley and state,” he said. “We take pride in leveraging our national brand to create positive local impact.” n nThe methodology combined economic modeling with investment analysis to assess both direct and indirect contributions. Key findings include the equivalent of 1,957 full-time jobs supported in the Auditorium District and $70.5 million in visitor spending injected into the local economy, along with $30.2 million in statewide income. Additionally, for every dollar invested, Idaho gains $1.50 in tax revenue and public sector savings. n nBoise State, currently a member of the Mountain West Conference, will transition to the Pac-12 on July 1, 2026. The department oversees 18 sports, supports over 350 student-athletes, and employs nearly 200 staff. Recent achievements include 10 teams posting winning records in 2024-25 and seven conference titles across six programs. Academic performance remains strong, with a 3.46 cumulative GPA and a 96% graduation success rate—the highest in both program and conference history. n nCommunity engagement is also a priority, with student-athletes contributing 2,850 service hours last year. Attendance at athletic events reached over 485,000 in 2024-25, leading the Mountain West for the second consecutive year.
