Cannabis Drinks Are Impacting Alcohol Sales, Says ‘Bar Rescue’ Host

A notable new trend is emerging in bars across America, which could significantly affect the spirits market, according to Jon Taffer, host of ‘Bar Rescue.’ Cannabis-infused drinks are becoming increasingly popular as an alternative for consumers adopting an alcohol-free lifestyle. Although the full market effects are still unclear, Taffer insists there is ‘no question’ that cannabis is influencing the spirits industry. CBD-infused beverages represent a growing category, with cannabidiol products generating $5.3 billion in 2021 and projected to reach $16 billion by 2026, according to Statista. This year, the U.S. cannabis market is expected to exceed $45 billion. However, Taffer highlights a challenge: many states do not allow the sale of alcohol and cannabis in the same setting. Minnesota is one of the few states permitting hemp and low-dose THC beverages at breweries, sometimes offering them on tap. In contrast, California has strict regulations, prohibiting alcohol-licensed businesses from selling hemp products. Despite these obstacles, some celebrities, like Willie Nelson, have entered the market.
