Commanders’ New Stadium to Drive Economic Growth in Washington D.C.

The planned $8 billion development of a new Commanders stadium and mixed-use district at the RFK site promises substantial economic benefits for Washington D.C. Expected to open in 2030, the project will create 30,000 construction jobs and generate $24.2 billion in total economic activity during its development phase.

Once operational, the stadium will host 28-29 ticketed events annually and over 200 private events, attracting 1.4 million visitors yearly. The surrounding district will include 6,477 housing units, office spaces, retail, a hotel, and recreational areas. This development is projected to produce $1.1 billion in annual economic output and contribute $5.1 billion in tax revenues over 33 years.

City officials remain optimistic about the project’s long-term impact, comparing it to the successful revitalization of Nationals Park and Navy Yard. Despite concerns about similar projects underperforming elsewhere, the administration believes this initiative will serve as a model for urban renewal and sustained economic growth.
