Dr. Ahmed Motawi, an economic expert, anticipates that Egypt’s Central Bank Monetary Policy Committee will reduce interest rates by 1 percentage point (100 basis points) during its next meeting on Thursday.
During a phone interview with media personality Ahmed Salem on the ON TV program “Kelmat Akhira,” Motawi cited several positive economic indicators supporting his forecast. These include a decline in inflation rates, manufacturing sector growth reaching 14.7%, tourism expanding by 17.3%, and net international reserves rising above $49 billion.
Regarding the potential fuel price increase expected in October, Motawi noted its inflationary impact would be limited. He explained that the recent depreciation of the U.S. dollar against the Egyptian pound would absorb much of this effect. He further projected the dollar to fall to EGP 47, strengthening the central bank’s ability to cut rates in order to stimulate investment and support economic expansion.
