Egypt and the Czech Republic have strengthened their economic cooperation through the signing of the minutes of the joint committee meeting held in Prague. The second session of the Egyptian-Czech Joint Economic Committee was held in Prague on June 30 and July 1, chaired by Egyptian Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan El-Khayat and Czech Minister of Industry and Trade Lukas Vlcek.
El-Khayat emphasized the importance of the joint committee as a central mechanism for developing various aspects of bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors. He noted that these meetings serve as a key platform for discussing topics and areas of mutual interest, contributing to enhancing the economic partnership between the two countries, according to an official press release issued on Tuesday.
Czech Minister Vlcek highlighted the need for joint efforts to elevate the level of bilateral relations, noting Egypt’s significant role for the Czech Republic in trade and investment within the Middle East and North Africa region. He emphasized the importance of the joint committee in boosting trade and investment exchanges and removing obstacles to trade flow, as well as enhancing industrial cooperation and technology transfer.
Prior to the ministerial-level meeting, a preparatory session was held at the expert and senior officials’ level, led by Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Sharif, Deputy Minister and Head of the Trade Representation on the Egyptian side, and Michal Prokop, Director of Non-European Countries Department at the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade on the Czech side.
The minutes of the committee meetings covered cooperation in numerous areas of mutual interest, including:
– Commercial cooperation: The committee reviewed the volume of bilateral trade and reaffirmed the importance of intensifying efforts to increase trade levels between the two countries.
– Exhibition and international markets cooperation: Both sides emphasized the importance of continued participation in exhibitions held in each country and the organization of specialized exhibitions to promote products.
– Civil aviation cooperation: Both parties commended the direct flight operated by EgyptAir between Egypt and the Czech Republic, which contributes to economic development and increases trade, investment, and tourism.
– Environmental and water management cooperation: Both sides emphasized the importance of continuing cooperation in water management, efficient use of available resources, and exchanging expertise on modern water management systems and wastewater treatment.
– Agricultural cooperation: The two countries agreed to facilitate the exchange of agricultural goods, develop livestock resources, and exchange expertise in plant quarantine.
– Renewable energy and green hydrogen cooperation: Both sides agreed to benefit from accumulated expertise in this field.
– Mining and mineral resources cooperation: The Czech Republic will provide available technologies for mineral exploration.
– SMEs and startups cooperation: The two countries will exchange experiences regarding policies and procedures applied in both countries and develop business incubators and industrial zones.
– Economic development cooperation: Facilitate technology transfer and vocational training to increase productivity.
– Tourism cooperation: Increase tourist flows between the two countries through participation in tourism exhibitions and exchange of tourism information.
– ICT and digital technologies cooperation: Strengthen cooperation in research and development of artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things and support business incubators for startups.
– Third-country cooperation: Encourage Czech companies to invest in Egypt and export to African and Arab markets, benefiting from Egypt’s geographical location and customs exemptions provided by trade agreements signed between Egypt and many countries around the world.
