Egypt has initiated economic collaboration with Somaliland, focusing on the import of live cattle and livestock to ensure adequate meat supply for local consumers. The initiative aims to leverage investment incentives offered by Somaliland to expand Egyptian market presence in African countries.
The country is actively enhancing its participation in regional economic alliances, benefiting from diplomatic missions conducted by the Supreme Council for Arab-African Economy. These efforts are opening new avenues for cooperation between African nations and council members.
Ambassador Yasser El-Bakhshwan, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Arab-African Economy, highlighted Somaliland’s strategic geographic location, positioning it as a key hub for trading essential commodities, particularly livestock and meat products. He noted that the region hosts three major livestock markets, including a specialized beef market and the largest trading center in the country.
The council’s strategy extends beyond livestock trade, encompassing the development of food processing industries. Plans include establishing facilities for processing fishery products, particularly tuna, which is abundant along Somaliland’s coastline. Additionally, byproducts from fish processing will be utilized to produce animal feed rich in oils and proteins, enhancing meat quality and livestock development.
Somaliland’s location also presents significant opportunities for expanding fishing activities, including live fish harvesting and sport fishing, which could generate employment through the use of specialized boats.
