Egyptian-Angolan Talks Focus on Economic Cooperation in Luanda

As part of Egypt’s participation in the US-Africa Business Summit held in Luanda, Angola, Engineer Mohamed Shemi, Egypt’s Minister of Public Business Sector, held a series of high-level bilateral meetings with Angolan officials. These meetings included Ricardo Daniel, Minister of Transport, and Diamantino Pedro Azevedo, Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum, and Gas.

The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in transport and energy, with an emphasis on transferring Egyptian expertise and exploring investment opportunities and industrial integration between the two nations. The Egyptian experience in developing the transport sector, particularly in railways, metro systems, and high-speed electric trains, was highlighted. The Angolan Transport Minister expressed admiration for Egypt’s achievements and a desire to benefit from its expertise.

In a meeting with the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, opportunities for collaboration in extractive and mining industries, fertilizers, and petrochemicals were discussed, with potential industrial partnerships in Angola supported by Egyptian know-how. Egypt’s Minister emphasized that Egyptian companies are ready to meet Angolan market needs and called for strategic alliances between Egyptian and Angolan firms to strengthen Egypt’s presence in Africa.

Engineer Mohamed Shemi stated that economic integration with African countries is a strategic necessity for the continent’s future. He highlighted the importance of exchanging expertise, localizing industry, and building genuine partnerships with countries like Angola as a path to sustainable development. The Minister affirmed that Egypt has strong industrial companies capable of meeting the Angolan market’s needs, mentioning Egyptian companies active in fertilizers and entities working in petroleum, gas, and mineral wealth, ready to execute projects in Angola and utilize available resources, in addition to providing support in construction. He also called for activating strategic alliances between Egyptian and Angolan companies to enhance Egypt’s presence in the African continent.

Engineer Mohamed Shemi stated that economic integration with African countries is no longer an option but a strategic necessity for the continent’s future. Egypt believes that exchanging expertise, localizing industry, and building genuine partnerships with countries like Angola represent a shared path toward sustainable development. He added, “We are working to create real added value through long-term industrial and investment partnerships between the public and private sectors in both countries.” He confirmed that Egypt is ready to provide training programs and knowledge transfer to support Angolan technical teams, stating that Egypt’s experience in reforming and modernizing productive and service sectors in recent years represents a model that can be built upon in joint African cooperation.

For his part, the Angolan Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum, and Gas reviewed the ministry’s activities, affiliated bodies, and companies operating in oil and gas, whether governmental or private, in addition to international companies, welcoming partnerships with Egyptian companies and studying investment and cooperation opportunities.
