Egyptian Foreign Minister Discusses Opportunities to Boost Economic Cooperation with Turkish Business Leaders

On the sidelines of his participation in the OIC ministerial meeting in Istanbul, Dr. Badr Abdel Ati, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, held a significant meeting with prominent Turkish business leaders. The meeting aimed to attract more foreign investments and strengthen bilateral economic relations.

Minister Abdel Ati emphasized the strategic importance of Egyptian-Turkish relations, particularly in trade and investment. He noted that bilateral trade reached approximately $9 billion in 2024, with aspirations to increase this figure to $15 billion, as agreed upon by the leadership of both countries. The free trade agreement signed between Egypt and Turkey in 2005 serves as a strong foundation for advancing economic relations, with potential updates to align with current changes and remove technical and administrative barriers.

The discussion also highlighted opportunities in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, where the minister showcased incentives and facilities for investors, including modern infrastructure, a strategic location connecting three continents, and a supportive legal framework. To further support Turkish investments, the minister mentioned the establishment of a special unit by the Prime Minister to assist Turkish investors in overcoming challenges, reflecting the government’s commitment to creating a stable and attractive investment environment.
