Saudi Arabia’s ambition to become a global logistics hub is gaining momentum as FedEx completes its transition to direct operations in the country. The U.S.-based shipping giant has launched direct flights from the United States and Europe to Saudi Arabia and is developing a new regional freight and distribution hub at King Salman International Airport. Additionally, the company has introduced FedEx Logistics, a dedicated arm to serve freight forwarders in the region.
The move follows the General Authority of Civil Aviation’s issuance of an economic license allowing FedEx to operate as a foreign air carrier within the kingdom, in compliance with local and international aviation regulations. This authorization enables the company to conduct regular cargo transport services, enhancing its operational capacity and service reach.
Salih Al-Jasser, Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistics Services, emphasized that the partnership aligns with the Kingdom’s strategic goals under Vision 2030, including economic diversification and deeper integration into global trade networks. He noted that Saudi Arabia’s geographic advantage, advanced infrastructure, and regulatory reforms are key enablers in attracting global logistics players.
The expansion is expected to boost freight capacity, improve delivery efficiency, and generate new employment opportunities within the logistics sector. By establishing a direct presence, FedEx aims to streamline supply chains and offer more reliable services to businesses and consumers across the region.
