The Aswan Chamber of Commerce officially launched its Economic Council for Businesswomen on Saturday, marking the fifteenth such body established across Egypt. The inauguration, held during a wide-ranging conference, aims to strengthen support for female entrepreneurs and business leaders across various sectors, in line with national strategies to enhance women’s economic roles and promote inclusive growth.
The event was attended by prominent figures including Akrum Al-Shaafi, Assistant Secretary of the Fund at the Egyptian Federation of Chambers of Commerce, Rym Siyam, head of the national council for businesswomen, Hossam Al-Ansari, President of the Aswan Chamber, and Dr. Sohair El-Masry, who will lead the local council. Representatives from economic councils across the country also participated.
Al-Shaafi stated that the creation of these councils reflects President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s support for Egyptian women’s participation in economic and commercial fields. He emphasized that the federation will transfer knowledge and best practices from existing councils to the new Aswan chapter to ensure effectiveness across cultural, social, and economic levels.
Dr. Sohair El-Masry acknowledged the backing of the Egyptian Federation of Chambers of Commerce under Ahmed El-Wekeil, explaining that the council’s core functions include promoting domestic investment, offering technical and practical support to new and experienced entrepreneurs, and eliminating obstacles while providing necessary facilitations.
She noted that following the establishment of the first council in Alexandria, the Aswan launch expands a growing network dedicated to supporting Egypt’s economy and aligning investment activities with national strategic goals.
El-Masry described the launch as a historic moment in the economic advancement of women in Upper Egypt, emphasizing that this is more than just forming a new administrative structure—it signifies the birth of a renewed economic force driven by the aspirations of female entrepreneurs in Aswan and southern regions.
She added that the new council arrives at a critical juncture, serving as a supportive and motivating platform for networking, integration, and building trust and cooperation among businesswomen in Aswan, other governorates, and across the Arab and African regions.
Hossam Al-Ansari affirmed that the council is a significant addition to Aswan’s commercial ecosystem, reinforcing the role of women in business. He highlighted the chamber’s commitment to economically empowering women, particularly those in rural communities, through training and support for launching small and medium enterprises to boost household income.
Rym Siyam revealed that the launch coincides with Global Entrepreneurship Week, creating a valuable space for dialogue, learning, experience exchange, and strengthening support networks among female entrepreneurs through Egypt’s provincial chambers under the national federation led by Ahmed El-Wekeil.
