How US Space Command is preparing for satellite-on-satellite combat

TOWARDS the conclusion of last year, two military satellites, one belonging to the United States and the other to France, engaged in a complex orbital maneuver. This operation, known as a rendezvous and proximity operation (RPO), involves satellites approaching one another or other spacecraft for inspection or interaction, was conducted in proximity to an unidentified foreign satellite. Although the specific nation involved has not been disclosed, there have been prior indications pointing towards potential adversaries. General Stephen Whiting highlighted this collaboration at the US Space Command headquarters in Colorado Springs, emphasizing the demonstration of joint capabilities. He noted previous discussions by French officials regarding Russian activities near French satellites, suggesting the exercise was a strategic display of cooperative prowess.
