Kroger Announces Resignation of CEO Rodney McMullen

The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) announced the resignation of Chairman and CEO Rodney McMullen following a Board investigation into his personal conduct, which was inconsistent with the company’s ethical policies but unrelated to its financial or operational performance. Effective immediately, Ronald “Ron” Sargent, Kroger’s lead director, has been appointed as Chairman of the Board and interim CEO, while Mark Sutton will serve as the lead independent director.

The Board has initiated a search for a permanent CEO, engaging a nationally recognized firm to assist in the process. Sargent, who has been with Kroger since 2006, expressed his commitment to maintaining the company’s strategic direction during the transition.

Kroger anticipates its full-year Identical Sales without fuel to be at the high end of its guidance range, with Adjusted Earnings Per Share slightly above that range. The company will report its Q4 and full-year 2024 results on March 6, 2025.
