PARIS, July 2 (KUNA) — Kuwait remains steadfast in its dedication to protecting the marine environment, an official affirmed during discussions at UNESCO, highlighting the nation’s deep maritime heritage. Dr. Turki Al-Saeed, head of the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research’s (KISR) coastal and marine resources department, noted that Kuwait has conducted extensive studies on hydrological and chemical changes in the marine ecosystem during a session of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) in Paris.
The country has significantly increased funding to enhance marine research capabilities, including the deployment of a specialized vessel equipped with advanced technology to collect scientific data at sea, Al-Saeed explained. This data encompasses physical, chemical, and biological factors influencing the marine environment, a domain in which KISR has conducted in-depth research through dedicated platforms.
UNESCO’s IOC serves as the sole UN body focused on marine science, fostering international collaboration to enhance the management of oceans, coasts, and marine resources.
