Kuwait’s EPA Commits to Protecting Natural Resources and Enhancing Sustainability

KUWAIT, June 17 (KUNA) — Acting Chief of the Environment Public Authority (EPA), Nouf Behbehani, has affirmed the authority’s commitment to protecting natural resources and promoting environmental sustainability through effective projects. On the occasion of the World Day to Combat Desertification, Behbehani highlighted EPA’s focus on addressing desertification, a key environmental challenge impacting food security, ecosystem stability, and quality of life. The authority runs awareness programs to encourage sustainable land use practices and supports local and international efforts to combat desertification and mitigate climate change effects. One notable initiative is the mangrove planting project in the Jahra Nature Reserve, which aims to enhance coastal vegetation. Dr. Mubarak Al-Hajri, Chief of the Kuwait Geosciences Society, noted that Kuwait is significantly affected by dust storms, according to UN studies. He emphasized the importance of community participation in afforestation, resource management, and investing in research to combat desertification and its adverse effects on health and the economy.
