Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly emphasized that the establishment of the African Trade Center reflects the deep partnership between Egypt and the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), built on mutual trust and a shared vision for comprehensive economic advancement across Africa.
His remarks came during his participation in the launch event for the African Trade Center, located in Egypt’s new administrative capital.
Afreximbank is a pan-African financial institution dedicated to enhancing intra-African trade, fostering innovation, and increasing the continent’s integration into the global economy.
Madbouly highlighted that the center underscores Egypt’s pivotal role in advancing continental economic integration and facilitating trade flows. Hosting the bank’s headquarters in Egypt strengthens this collaboration by creating a dynamic hub for trade information, capacity building, innovation, and intergovernmental dialogue.
He noted that continental integration is fundamental to Africa’s future prosperity and global standing. The creation of a unified African market boosts bilateral trade and investment, enables economies of scale, supports industrialization, and develops regional value chains—reducing reliance on raw material exports.
Such integration also enhances Africa’s collective bargaining power internationally, attracts foreign direct investment, and helps tackle shared challenges including poverty reduction, youth employment, and cross-border infrastructure development in transport and energy sectors.
The partnership reinforces Egypt’s position as a strategic link between Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, aiding in managing transnational issues and supporting energy security through regional grid interconnections.
Madbouly affirmed Afreximbank’s role as a key financial ally for Egypt, supporting national priorities across sectors during global crises such as economic reforms, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Collaboration includes backing Egyptian firms in engineering, procurement, and construction projects across several African nations, as well as financing industrial ventures in sugar, petrochemicals, tires, and steel.
The bank also provides funding for energy initiatives, including oil trading and storage, regional interconnection projects, and infrastructure development in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.
The African Trade Center will feature specialized platforms for trade data and market monitoring, training and research spaces, and serve as a primary venue for major trade and investment events across Africa, aligning with the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
