MetLife has announced a significant three-year collaboration with Global Citizen, the global advocacy movement dedicated to ending extreme poverty, to support initiatives focused on economic resilience and educational access. As part of the alliance, MetLife will contribute financial resources, mobilize employee volunteers, and leverage its international presence to expand programs in financial literacy, workforce development, and community empowerment.
In parallel, the MetLife Foundation has pledged $9 million as a founding contributor to the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which aims to raise $100 million to expand quality education and sports opportunities for children worldwide. Education has long been central to the foundation’s mission since its establishment in 1976. Its funding priorities include STEM education, financial literacy training, mentorship, and skill-building programs designed to equip young people for long-term success.
Michel Khalaf, president and CEO of MetLife, emphasized the company’s commitment to fostering inclusive growth: “Our purpose is to help individuals and communities build more secure futures. By joining forces with Global Citizen, we’re advancing financial well-being, expanding learning pathways, and strengthening communities globally. This initiative reflects our foundation’s legacy of contributing over $1 billion to social causes over nearly five decades.”
The partnership will also support Global Citizen’s flagship events, including the 2025 Global Citizen Festival held in New York’s Central Park, which brought together artists, policymakers, and activists to mobilize action on pressing global issues. Additional engagement will occur through the Global Citizen NOW summits, which focus on accelerating progress toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Hugh Evans, Co-Founder and CEO of Global Citizen, highlighted the transformative potential of cross-sector alliances: “Addressing systemic challenges requires collective effort. The collaboration with MetLife and its foundation will amplify our reach and deepen our impact, moving us closer to a world where every person can live with dignity and opportunity.”
Individuals and organizations are encouraged to participate in the movement through advocacy actions and civic engagement via the Global Citizen platform.
