BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION
Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, fostering innovation and producing goods that maintain America’s strength, competitiveness, and security. During National Small Business Week, we honor the determination, creativity, and perseverance of entrepreneurs who strive for greatness.
Small businesses play a crucial role in our economy. With 33 million small businesses employing 61.7 million Americans—nearly half of the private-sector workforce—they create nearly two-thirds of all new jobs in the country.
In recent years, small business owners have faced significant challenges such as high inflation, excessive federal spending, and burdensome regulations, yet they continue to serve their communities. Additionally, many small businesses bear the weight of an imbalanced global trade system. Originally established after World War II to aid war-torn nations, it is now exploited by foreign competitors who flood our markets with cheap goods while excluding American products.
My administration is addressing these issues by implementing targeted tariffs to protect American businesses from unfair trade practices and strengthen local supply chains. We are prioritizing American workers and entrepreneurs through common-sense, pro-growth policies. By reducing red tape, maintaining low taxes, promoting fair trade, and supporting hardworking Americans, we aim to empower businesses to focus on what they do best.
Entrepreneurship is the foundation of a free and prosperous nation, driven by individuals who work hard, take risks, and believe in the American Dream. From agriculture to manufacturing to technology, small businesses embody the American spirit, driving growth and creating employment opportunities. By supporting small businesses, we are raising wages, strengthening families, and leading the country into a new golden age.
I proclaim May 4 through May 10, 2025, as National Small Business Week. I urge all Americans to recognize the critical contributions of entrepreneurs and small business owners to our nation’s economy.
