New Yorkers Express Disappointment Over Rite Aid Store Closures

Residents of New York expressed their disappointment this week as news broke that all local Rite Aid stores will soon close. The drugstore chain filed for bankruptcy for the second time and plans to liquidate all its assets, including prescriptions, pharmacy services, and inventory. A company spokesperson confirmed that all Rite Aid distribution centers will shut down in the coming months, with stores either closing permanently or being taken over by new owners. Currently, there are 178 Rite Aid locations in New York state and 60 in New Jersey. Long-time customer Eddie Neuwirth, who has relied on the West Village Rite Aid for 50 years, lamented the closure, praising the store’s friendly service. Another resident, Garbiela Marin, noted that the store’s shelves had been gradually emptying over the past few months. Despite some sections remaining stocked, others were nearly bare. Employees remain uncertain about their futures. Rite Aid assured customers they can still access its services online or in-store until further notice. The company is reportedly in discussions with potential buyers.
