Investing.com — Huawei Technologies is set to test its latest artificial intelligence processor, the Ascend 910D, which could potentially replace some of Nvidia’s high-end products. Expected to arrive in sample batches by late May, this chip aims to provide a domestic alternative to Nvidia’s H100, widely used in AI development. Nvidia shares dipped nearly 1% in pre-market trading on Monday.
Huawei has engaged Chinese firms to assess the feasibility of the new chip, driven by tightened U.S. export controls that have impacted Nvidia’s sales in China. Earlier this month, Washington added Nvidia’s H20 chip to its restricted export list, resulting in a $5.5 billion charge for Nvidia in the first quarter. Meanwhile, Huawei continues to ramp up shipments of its earlier AI chips, the 910B and 910C, and is building large-scale computing systems to maximize their performance.
