Oaxaca Economic Development Department Promotes Local Business Growth at 2025 Mezcal Fair

From July 18-25 at the Oaxaca Cultural and Convention Center, the State Secretariat of Economic Development (Sedeco) implemented its “Business Area” strategy during the 2025 Mezcal Fair. This initiative aimed to strengthen the regional economy by directly connecting local producers with purchasing companies at state, national, and international levels.

Through the Subsecretariat of Economic Promotion and Investment Attraction, this platform sought to stimulate regional production chains and enhance the competitiveness of local suppliers. The program generated significant economic impact by reducing commercial intermediation levels and enabling better profit margins for producers.

The core operational tools included Business Matching Tables – B2B meetings conducted in a secure professional networking environment. Each session between purchasing and selling companies lasted 15-30 minutes, allowing participants to present products and requirements while establishing frameworks for future commercial agreements. While no immediate commitments were required, Sedeco will follow up on all formalized purchase intentions from the event.

Participating categories covered distilled and fermented products including mezcal, rum, wines, and craft beers; handicrafts and textiles; corn and wheat products; agro-food items; and hot beverages like coffee, chocolate, and atoles. Participant selection and validation was conducted in advance by the department to ensure an efficient and transparent matching process.

This initiative represents concrete action by Governor Salomón Jara Cruz’s administration to strengthen Oaxacan micro, small, and medium enterprises, expand their commercial networks, and solidify their presence in emerging markets.
