The Mid-Region Council of Governments (MRCOG) has launched a public survey to gather input for updating central New Mexico’s Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS). This strategic framework guides regional growth priorities and determines eligibility for federal funding from the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA). Stakeholders across Bernalillo, Sandoval, Torrance, and Valencia counties are encouraged to participate, ensuring diverse perspectives shape the plan.
Augusta Meyers, MRCOG spokesperson, emphasized that the current strategy dates back five years—just before the pandemic—and that economic conditions have shifted significantly since then. With 40% of New Mexico’s population residing in this area, the updated document will play a crucial role in directing investments and supporting inclusive growth.
The CEDS process evaluates regional strengths and weaknesses, helping communities align projects with federal requirements. Past initiatives funded through this mechanism include the Sandia Science & Technology Park, the Amazon fulfillment center, and redevelopment of the Albuquerque Rail Yards.
The online survey remains open until November 14 and invites feedback on infrastructure, housing, healthcare access, education, and which industries should receive development focus. MRCOG aims to finalize the new strategy by year-end, ensuring timely access to federal resources for local economic advancement.
