Recalled shakes reportedly kill 11 people, sicken 38 due to Listeria contamination

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – A recall of frozen supplemental shakes produced by Lyons ReadyCare and Sysco Imperial has been linked to 11 deaths and 38 illnesses across 21 states, including Ohio, due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The FDA announced the recall on Friday after the outbreak was traced to shakes distributed in long-term care facilities and hospitals between 2024 and 2025. Symptoms of Listeria infection include fever, muscle aches, nausea, tiredness, vomiting, and diarrhea. Individuals experiencing these symptoms, particularly those who may have consumed the recalled products, are urged to seek medical attention immediately. The recall underscores the importance of food safety in vulnerable environments such as healthcare facilities. — news from WKRC TV Cincinnati
