A salmonella outbreak connected to a large egg recall has sickened dozens of people across seven states in the West and Midwest, according to federal health officials. The August Egg Company recalled approximately 1.7 million brown organic and cage-free eggs distributed to grocery stores between February and May due to potential salmonella contamination. At least 79 cases have been reported in seven states, with 21 hospitalizations. Symptoms include diarrhea, fever, vomiting, dehydration, and stomach cramps. The CDC advises discarding or returning recalled eggs and cleaning surfaces that came into contact with them.
