NGWOMA, Nigeria — Life in this small community within the Niger Delta region has become increasingly isolated. n nResidents recall a time when traveling beyond Ngwoma was common. The village’s dirt roads, shaded by rows of papaya and banana trees, once led regularly to medical appointments and shopping trips in nearby urban centers. However, the current economic situation, particularly the rising cost of fuel, has restricted the movement of most of the village’s 2,500 inhabitants.
