Subaru Introduces Trailseeker, an All-Electric SUV Targeting Outdoorsy EV Buyers

Subaru has unveiled the Trailseeker, its latest all-electric SUV, at the New York International Auto Show. This new model follows Subaru’s previous EV, the Solterra, and incorporates some collaboration with Toyota. The Trailseeker is positioned as a vehicle for those who enjoy an active outdoor lifestyle, potentially competing with Rivian’s upcoming R2 model.

The Trailseeker is larger than the Solterra but smaller than the gas-powered Ascent. It features an all-wheel drive system powered by two electric motors, delivering 375 horsepower and enabling it to tow up to 3,500 pounds. Subaru highlights its design for versatility, offering a spacious cargo area and a taller roof for adventure gear.

Equipped with a 74.7-kWh lithium-ion battery, the Trailseeker promises over 260 miles of range. It supports the North American Charging Standard, ensuring compatibility with Tesla’s Supercharging Network. Inside, the SUV boasts a 14-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and charging options for passengers.

While the Trailseeker aims to appeal to outdoor enthusiasts, it has 8.3 inches of ground clearance, slightly less than Subaru’s Forester and Outback models. Further details, including pricing and platform specifics, are expected before its nationwide retail launch in 2026.
