Temu Reduces Ad Spend Amid Rising Tariffs

Temu, a Chinese online marketplace offering products priced between $1 and $50, is adjusting its strategies due to rising tariffs. Last week, former President Donald Trump imposed a 145% tariff on all goods imported from China, significantly increasing from the previous 34%. This change has prompted Temu to reduce its advertising spend on platforms like Google and Meta. According to Tinuiti, Temu’s ad impressions on Google Shopping dropped from nearly 20% on April 5 to zero by April 12. Additionally, Temu’s U.S. ad spending on Meta fell by 10% year-over-year in Q1 of 2025. The company has also warned customers about potential price increases due to global trade rule changes. Temu faces competition from Amazon’s new section, Amazon Haul, which offers similar products but includes name-brand items shipped from U.S. warehouses. — new from TheStreet
