Tesla Recalls Majority of Cybertrucks Over Detaching Trim Issue

Tesla is recalling a significant portion of its Cybertruck fleet due to a stainless-steel exterior trim panel that can detach from the vehicle, posing a road hazard and increasing crash risks, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s notice. This recall affects most of the Cybertrucks currently on the road, based on analyst estimates.

This development comes amid challenges for Tesla, including rising competition, an aging lineup, and backlash against CEO Elon Musk’s controversial role. Shares of Tesla fell 1.4% in premarket trading, continuing a downward trend this year. Analysts note a shift in sentiment towards Tesla from both existing customers and potential buyers, evidenced by protests and sales boycotts across the U.S.

Tesla remains a major player in U.S. vehicle recalls, with its vehicles accounting for 5.1 million call-backs in 2024, though many issues were resolved via over-the-air software updates. — news from Reuters
