The Economist is offering a one-year, full-time paid internship in its Digital department, set to begin in late summer or early autumn 2025 in London. The internship will involve working on the World in brief news briefing, publishing articles, tracking story workflows, and curating the homepage and app. Interns will also pitch and write articles while collaborating with various departments, including the weekly edition, podcasts, videos, and 1843. Occasional weekend shifts are required. The program aims to train future journalists, prioritizing strong writing and analytical skills over prior journalistic experience. Candidates should be globally curious, concise, witty, and rigorous in their writing, with familiarity with The Economist’s Style Guide. An interest in business, finance, economics, technology, or science is preferred. Organizational skills, attention to detail, and comfort with publishing systems are essential. To apply, candidates must submit a cover letter, CV, and three original 150-word “chunks” suitable for the World in brief section by June 30th, 2025. At least two chunks should focus on business, finance, economics, technology, or science. The written work is the most critical part of the application and will be reviewed anonymously. This position is based in London, and applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK.
