The Economist’s Digital Journalist Internship Opportunity

The Economist is offering a one-year, full-time paid internship in its Digital department, set to begin in late summer or early autumn 2025 in London. The internship will involve working on the World in brief news briefing, collaborating with global teams, tracking story workflows, curating the homepage and app, and contributing articles. Interns may also assist other departments, including the weekly edition, podcasts, videos, and 1843. Occasional weekend shifts are required. The program aims to train future journalists, prioritizing strong writing, analytical skills, and curiosity about global affairs. Familiarity with The Economist’s Style Guide is essential. Ideal candidates will have an interest in business, finance, economics, technology, or science. Organizational skills, attention to detail, and teamwork are crucial. AI tools are encouraged for support but not for writing. To apply, candidates must submit a cover letter, CV, and three original 150-word “chunks” suitable for the World in brief section by June 30th, 2025. At least two chunks should focus on business, finance, economics, technology, or science. Applications are blind-reviewed, and the role requires the legal right to work in the UK.
